PLDT Home DSL Plan 1299 Review

We recently availed an internet connection plan and here is my PLDT Home DSL Plan 1299 review.

We have been struggling a lot with our internet connection lately because of some cabling issues, and as bummer as it already is, we could not get a Converge Fiber X (or any sort of Fiber connection) because, apparently, the facility of the building that we live in is not Fiber-ready yet.

So, for a while we were stuck with Globe at Home Prepaid WiFi but it is so unreliable that I would always stress over it. My job allows me to work remotely, thus I really need a WiFi connection that is strong/ fast enough for Skype and Webex calls. And, the Globe Prepaid WiFi always fails me in that area. Fortunately, there is a PLDT Home DSL to save the day.

How to Apply?

Few weeks ago, PLDT set up a kiosk near our place to promote their Home Fibr Plans. We submitted the application form through their agent who was manning the booth that time. But, you can also apply through their website. Oh, if you are wondering why we did not apply through their website, it is because their online application will require you to nominate a landline where they can contact you. We do not have an existing landline and we do not know someone who has one, either. So, yep, that agent was heaven-sent.

What are the required documents?

We filled out an application form and submitted two valid IDs. Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

How long is the approval and installation?

All applications, whether through online or agents, are subject for approval which, in our case, took three weeks. Then, we received a call from Klash, a PLDT’s subcontractor, asking for our availability so they can install something or prepare the conduit. After another week, we received another call from PLDT confirming that the modem is ready for installation. Hooray!

What is in the Plan?

We applied for DSL Unli Plan 1299 with speed up to 5 Mbps for 1,299 pesos monthly. A DSL Installation + Activation Fee amounting to 100.00 pesos will be charged one-time. The plan comes with a WiFi modem/router and a free landline/ corded telephone.

Our PLDT router is a dual band that supports both 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz. What is the difference? The former is perfect for long range while the latter is faster than the first one.

Unlimited landline calls are free as long as you are calling someone within Metro Manila.

How to set it up?

The staff from PLDT set it all up for us. The only thing that we did is to change the WiFi name and password in an Admin Dashboard which is pretty straightforward.

How was it?

I use it for my Skype and Webex calls, for doing work-related stuff, for downloading songs and mobile apps, for browsing the web, for checking my mails and social media, for watching Youtube videos, for blogging, for streaming online movies, and for binge-watching Netflix shows.

Speed Tests:

Here are the random tests I did:

2.4 GHZ

Date Time Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps) Ping
July 22, 2019 6:30 AM 4.83 6.23 7ms
July 27, 2019 5:19 PM 5.14 5.36 7ms

5GHZ

Date Time Download (Mbps) Upload (Mbps) Ping
July 22, 2019 6:30 AM 7.14 5.08 5ms
July 27, 2019 5:19 PM 5.81 5.68 5ms

Final Thoughts:

I preferred this than our previous WiFi connections way better that writing this PLDT Home DSL Plan 1299 Review is a lot easier. I am obviously enjoying this so much that my homebody life is being more acceptable than ever!
