The embassy has an ongoing promotion for eligible BDO and BPI credit card holders where they can get multiple-entry visas to Korea with the exemption of financial documents. However, this does not mean that the applicant will be automatically granted a multiple-entry visa. Issuance of visa whether single or multiple-entry solely depends on the consul in-charge. Take me for an instance, I submitted my BDO Gold Mastercard but I was only issued a single-entry visa. 😀
The following are the eligible BDO and BPI Credit Cards:
- BDO Gold Cardholders: Gold Visa Credit Card, Gold Mastercard Credit Card, Gold UnionPay Credit Card, Gold JCB Credit Card
- BDO Elite Cardholders: Platinum Visa Credit Card, Titanium/Platinum and World Elite MasterCard Credit Card, Gold/Platinum/Cathay Pacific and American Express Charge Cards issued by BDO, Diamond UnionPay Credit Card, Diners Club Premiere
- BPI Gold Master Cards
- BPI SkyMiles Platinum Master Card, BPI Amore Visa Platinum Card, BPI Signature Cards
- Gold BPI Express Teller Debit Cardholders
Eligible cardholders are exempted from submitting Bank Certificate, Bank Statement, and Income Tax Return (ITR). In lieu of these documents, applicants should submit the following (on top of the other main requirements):
- Certification from BDO/ BPI which supports that the applicant has an active eligible credit card with the bank;
- Photocopy of the credit card; and
- Latest original credit card statement of account (SOA).
For those who are receiving their SOA through email, you may request its original copy, along with the Certification, from your bank. In my case, I called the BDO hotline and I was asked to send an email request as a secondary communication. I received the SOA and Certification after 20 days.
This promo will last until December 31, 2019.

Where to submit the requirements?
Effective last July 1, 2018, the Embassy of South Korea in the Philippines is no longer accepting direct applications with them, unless you are a spouse or child of a Korean national, a government employee on a business trip, an application with urgent humanitarian reasons, or a visa issuance number holder from Korea.
All visa applications should be coursed through the designated travel agencies like this one except for the Korean Consulate in Cebu which is NOT affected by this and will continue to accept direct applications on site.
Refer to this site for the official announcement and for the agency list. The travel agencies charge for the service that they offer of processing/sending your application which can range from Php 500 to Php 2,000.
A South Korea Tourist Visa has no fee as long as you are staying for 59 days or less. However, the Embassy charges Php 2,000 for stays extending from 60 to 90 days.
Once you have completed all the requirements, submit these to your preferred agency.
When and how to know the status of South Korean Tourist Visa application?
Visa processing takes 10 working days, while express processing takes 2 working days.
The agency will advise you whether your visa application was granted or denied. You may opt to pick up your passport from the agency or have it delivered for a certain delivery fee.
Final Thoughts:
Applying for any visa, for that matter, is one of the major things that we usually dread to do. The internet has countless write-ups on how to surpass the South Korea Tourist Visa application, but, truthfully, no one and nothing can really assure someone of its approval. Nevertheless, it has been proven for myriad times that diligent preparation really helps anyone not to sweat the application process.
If in doubt, always reach out to your chosen travel agency or send an email directly to South Korean Visa and Consular Affairs: ph04@mofa.go.kr or consg@mofa.go.kr
Oh, they always respond!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How long is my visa valid?
The visa is only valid for 3 months from the date of issuance.
Are plane and hotel reservations required to be submitted during the application for a South Korea Tourist Visa?
Plane and hotel reservations are not required. In fact, the Embassy advises tourists to apply for a visa first before purchasing airline tickets because all visa applications are subject to review and approval.
Will the Embassy verify my employment details with the company I declared in the application form?
YES, this will definitely be a part of their process. Never lie about a single thing on your application details. Also, ensure that you have given your HR personnel a prior authorization to confirm your details during the Embassy’s employment verification.
My company has no landline number, can I provide a Human Resource personnel’s cellphone number?
Never provide a cellphone number as your company’s contact number. Make sure you have their telephone number as the Embassy will contact them to verify your employment details.
Should the application form be computerized or handwritten?
It should be computerized. Create and attach your digital signature onto the form.
How much do I need to show in my bank statement to get approved?
The Embassy has no explicit statement on the required amount of money you should have in your account. Two of my friends had at least Php 100,000 and one friend had Php 50,000, but all three of them were granted single-entry visas.
The main thing to consider here is to ensure that you have a certain amount that is proportional to the length of your stay, and you have the solid proofs (through the documents) that you have no intention of staying in their country longer than you are supposed to.
Is there an agency that can give a higher probability of getting approved?
No, there is no such thing. These travel agencies do not have a direct impact on whether your application will be approved or declined. They will only ensure that you are submitting your documents in a complete and timely manner. They will hand these same documents to the Embassy which will assess whether you should be issued with a tourist visa or not.
What are the OECD Visas?
These are the visas issued by the following member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD):
Australia Austria Belgium Canada Chile Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Israel Italy | Japan Korea Latvia Luxembourg Mexico Netherlands New Zealand Norway Poland Portugal Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Turkey United Kingdom United States |
What can I do if my application was denied?
First of all, so sorry you have to go through that. No one wants to be rejected! 🙁
The good news is you can re-apply after 6 months but make sure this time that you provide the complete documents, and your bank/ company can verify your financial and employment details.
Jeju Island of South Korea is a visa-free destination, however since there is no direct flight from the Philippines to Jeju, any transit to the island through Incheon airport and Gimpo airport requires a Korean visa.
