Budget DIY Itinerary in Singapore
If Singapore was a guy, I would have fallen in love with him…truly…madly…deeply. No exaggeration because it’s simply gorgeous. <3 Here’s our budget DIY itinerary in Singapore.
My “oohing” and “aahing” over Singapore kicked off when we’re in Changi Airport (I don’t know, maybe because it’s just waaaaay better than NAIA. Haha!) It’s humongous, squeaky-clean, and modern. It has excellent facilities and oh, the free wifi connection is ridiculously reliable. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Moreover, we didn’t have a hard time going through Immigration because the process was very efficient. And… you know what, I could go on and on about it but we are just starting with Day 1, so I’ll continue discussing this budget DIY itinerary in Singapore.
Here are some of the photos I took at the Changi Airport.
Our budget DIY itinerary in Singapore in detailed:
From the Changi Airport, we took a cab to the Happy Snail Hostel, which was our amazing home away from home for two (2) days. After we have settled our things in our room, we set off for the we-literally-got-so-lost kind of day 1.
First stop: Lunch (Come on! This should definitely come first. LOL Bakit ba, gutom kami.) at Amoy Street Food Centre.
One of the tips I got from blogs I read when we’re preparing for this travel was “eat at a stall which has a looong queue.” So we did. We chose the Pepper Bowl stall on the 2nd floor of the food centre. I had the Pepper Beef + poached egg. It was very delicious (I’m suddenly drooling now) and cheap. The only problem was the Food Centre has no free potable water so we still had to buy bottled water.
After lunch, we headed to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Chinatown (for the pasalubongs and free wifi. LOL).
After we have bought our pasalubongs and connected to the free wifi to tell our loved ones how much we’re loving Singapore (haha), we headed to colorful Little India!
And, ah, finally, the highlight of our Day 1–Marina Bay!
We may have ended our first day feeling very tired but it’s nothing compared to the delight and awe we felt while we feasted on the beauty of Singapore.
Our second day was nothing but being kids again at Universal Studios Singapore 😀
We started our day by riding the Cable Car from the Harbourfront Cable Car Station to Sentosa Island. Confession: I have acrophobia but I had to take that ride anyway and… I did have fun. 🙂
We had lunch at KFC (because this is new and I think we haven’t tried this at home. LOL) Sentosa Island and we did a lot of photoshoots again.
From the Sentosa Island, we headed to the USS where I had the most exciting and frightening (and well, curse-the-extreme-ride-under-my-breath kind of) day. LMAO.
To date, the USS has 7 themed areas: Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, Far Far Away, The Lost World, and Madagascar.
HOLLYWOOD
This zone is themed after the Hollywood Blvd of the 1970s. Upon entering the gate, we were welcomed by this zone’s quaint shops, classic film figures, and palm trees.
While we’re strolling along Hollywood, we spotted some familiar faces.
There’s nothing much to do at Hollywood zone but you can catch the characters at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
NEW YORK
Isn’t it cool that the “Big Apple” comes to life in this zone? We didn’t miss the fanciful dancing and singing of the characters from Sesame Street. You can also catch some great street dancing.
SCI-FI CITY
This is the zone that gave me that death-feels. Haha! It has the Transformers and the Battlestar Gallactica rides.
So Crizzy wanted to try the Battlestar Gallactica Human vs. Cyclon. I hesitated at first because I have never ridden an extreme, stomach-churning ride ever in my whole life. But oh this. This was the first time that I gave into peer pressure. Hahaha.
The Battlestar Gallactica Human vs. Cyclon ride is “high-speed turbulent roller coasters that include sudden and dramatic acceleration, climbing, lifting and dropping”.
The “Human” or the Red coaster has no upturns but has a lot of turns and drops. This is the milder of the two rides. Unlike the former, the “Cyclon” or the Blue coaster has a number of inversions and our feet were dangling freely.
I was praying that we would ride the Red one but Criz being her normal self – excited, brave, thrill-seeking, chose the Cyclon. I was doomed. Before we reached the loading platform, I gave Criz my last wishes and messages to my loved ones. LOL.
The ride lasted for only 90 seconds but it was the longest 90 seconds of my life.
Sure, I was so scared. Did I enjoy it? Oh, you have no idea. After it, I realized that I have just conquered one of my fears and riding a roller coaster has just been ticked off my list. I might do it again in the future, who knows? 😀
ANCIENT EGYPT
It has the very popular Revenge of the Mummy ride which is an indoor roller coaster. We took a lot of pictures of the beautiful and majestic old Egypt.
THE LOST WORLD
This Jurassic-themed land has the WaterWorld and the Jurassic Park Rapid Adventure rides. Though we weren’t able to try these because of the long queue.
FAR FAR AWAY
I was so happy that I got to see my Forever-After. 😀 This zone was mostly about Shrek with a “live” show. We absolutely loved the Shrek’s 4-D Adventure especially when he would keep on sneezing and would get us covered in water. 😀
MADAGASCAR
This is especially for the younger ones and the young at hearts! And no, you don’t have to be familiar with the movie to enjoy this zone.
Each zone has its unique rides and attractions. The queue is usually long on Fridays, holidays, and weekends. We may not able to enjoy each ride of the seven zones but we sure did enjoy the Universal Studios Singapore. We had a lot of picture taking, giggling, shouting, and of course, jumping. Haha! 😀
It was one hell of a day and we sure did have so much fun. I hope you find this budget DIY itinerary in Singapore helpful for your next travel to the Lion City.
Until then, Singapore. <3
